Yo that’s my song!!! Gotta get up and dance. As a DJ/musician, I started to think about that and what that meant. When I think of songs that touched me, and that I still listen to from time to time, they were songs that had great musical arrangements, and the voice and the lyrics complimented the music. What the artist was/is saying to me is not as impacting to me until the song "touches" me. It was always the music first then the voice(s), and lastly the lyrics. Something had to make me physically move whether it was a dance song or a slow song. So my question is what type of music/song do you listen to that moves you? How does that song or genre actually affect you?

Type of music or song that moves me... depends on my mood! I gotta keep it real that sometimes I need certain music, actually artists, to pick me up make the work day, or even just the day, lively. I have my favorite songs and favorite artists that are must-haves. Majority of the time it is the beat that catches my attention and then the lyrics. These songs become my favorite because I can relate. It doesn't matter how far I go with Christ that Mary J. Blige will not ever sing/write a song that I cannot relate to. We basically grew up together; and still are! :) R&B Soul, NeoSoul, Smooth Jazz, and Gospel are basically my genres. I like mellow moods, not overly excited, but not down-and-out. I must admit that if I hear late 80's or early 90's hip-hop I act a fool. It takes me back to high school! Those were the days! Songs make me reminisce, be thankful, relax, be thankful, dance like a 2 year old, cry, and be thankful.
I feel you! I don't know of too many folks that don't like Mary J. She is hot and I have grown to appreciate her more cuz her music has grown up with her. And don't get it twisted, that girl can preach AND teach. I saw her in concert and got down telling folks to learn from her songs so that they don't repeat what she did - that God allowed her to go through to bring others out. Give me some Tribe, Notorious BIG, Dre, Black Moon, Heavy, LL Cool J, and I am real good. LOL. Thanks for responding.
Black Moon? Must be before my time! LOL!
Ha Ha! You funny youngn'! lol. I can go back even further. I KNOW hip-hop :-)
